CLA - CONJUGATED LINOLEIC ACID

There is a girl that I know that just joined a gym about 2 weeks ago.  She has NEVER worked out before so everything her personal trainer tells her is completely new information to her that she sort of takes without question.  For example, according to her, he told her that if she wants to lose weight but still drink beer (which she drinks a ton of and refuses to give up), she should choose the darker heavier beers over light beers and that she should take a multi vitamin with every meal because we sweat out all our vitamins and minerals throughout the day.  These two statements caught me off guard… I guess how I could see that having one heavy beer filling you up over 5 light beers would be a benefit if she actually followed through like that, but taking a multi vitamin at every meal?  I find that weird.  So anyways, I was already a little skeptical about what she was claiming he said to her even before she brought CLA up.  Apparently, her gym sells CLA and he insisted that she take it because it will “burn up all her fat and grow her muscles extra fast”, as she put it… which I’m sure is totally different than what he said.  Granted, I was already skeptical, but it kind of sounds like he is just trying to sell her a supplement that his gym carries that she doesn’t really need.  I decided to Google CLA today and from what I’ve read, it seems like it is more accredited as a cancer fighter and only “may” aid in fat loss.  When it comes down to it, it sounds more like it is similar to any other concentrated protein like protein shakes, etc. because protein helps grow muscles… but it does not sound like the magic diet pill she thinks it is.  I am curious to hear your thoughts about this.

TL;DR: Does anyone out there use CLA? If so/not, why?

HIGH PROTEIN SNACKS/MEALS?

What are your favorites? Preferably some that aren’t super high in sodium, too. Please give me suggestions! :)
